Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. The CSSP will help researchers and scientists to get the best support needed to advance their work through international collaborations.

In cooperation with Al Salama Hospital and I.Learn Professional Training Center, the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) is organizing a session on First Aid Skills on 6 May from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, Auditorium, Bibliotheca Alexandrina Conference Center.

The Session aims at raising the health awareness of the community focusing on the importance of knowing the basic procedures of first aid.

Research Grants 2011 is now available online for young Egyptian postdoctoral researchers seeking funds in one of the following areas of study: 
  • Agricultural Sciences

  • Biology and Biotechnology

  • Engineering Sciences and Technology
  • Earth Sciences
  • Physics and Biophysics
  • Mathematics

  • Medical Sciences

  • Pre-University Education
  •  Information Technology and Bioinformatics
  •  Chemistry and Biochemistry

 

Eligibility and Deadlines 

  • Egyptian scholars who have earned their PhD within the past five years (following December 2006)
  • Applicants must hold a current position at a public/private academic or research institution in Egypt, and the research must be conducted in Egypt
  • Currently engaged or can arrange to work on a joint research project with foreign counterpart(s) at a university or research center abroad
  • Applicants must not exceed 35 years of age by January 2011
  • Grant applications must be submitted online before 30 April 2011
  • Have a valid Local TOEFL certificate with a minimum score of 500

Science Supercourse

 Science Supercourse

Science Supercourse is a project jointly coordinated by Ismail Serageldin,SSC Website Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Ronald Laporte, Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Disease Monitoring and Telecommunications at the University of Pittsburgh.

This effort was designed to improve information sharing among professionals and educators in four major fields of science: public health, agriculture, computer engineering, and environment. Lectures are shared in PowerPoint format to empower educators around the world.

 Get Involved!

The SSC is based on involving the community and encouraging professors and experts to participate by adding their own lectures to the website for the benefit of students and teachers everywhere.

 If you are a Professor of Agriculture, Computer Engineering, Health or Environmental Health, be part of the SSC and upload your lectures.

Scholarship for Individuals under the EU Program

There is a current open call for scholarship for individuals under the EU Program Erasmus Mundus Action 2 – “Flow-by-Flow EU-Egypt Bridge Building (FFEEBB) 2” Project. The project aims at enhancing the academic cooperation between European and Egyptian universities by bringing together students (undergraduate, master, doctoral and post-doctoral), university staff (academic and administrative) and researchers through the provision of scholarships of various length.

BioVision Lilly TWAS Award: Winners Announced

 BioVision Lilly TWAS Award: Winners Announced

The names of the winners of 2011 BioVision-Lilly-TWAS Award have been announced at a ceremony that took place during the 7th World Life Sciences Forum in Lyon, France, on 28 March. The 2011 Award has recognized four young scientists who have a track record of excellent research in the field of tuberculosis, and whose work promises to have a positive impact in the developing world.

The winners were selected from among 40 entries by an international jury of world-class academics chaired by Jacob Palis, President of TWAS, and professor at the Instituto Nacional de Matemática Pura e Aplicada in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Award was presented to the winners by Bart Peterson, Senior Vice-President for Corporate Affairs and Communication at Eli Lilly & Co and by Mr. Christian Grenier, CEO, BioVision.

Dr. Digby Warner, Senior Research Officer, MRC/NHLS/UCT Molecular Mycobacteriology Research Unit, University of Cape Town, South Africa - Winner: Warner is honoured for his work on mycobacterial metabolism which promises to have a major impact on understanding the development of drug-resistance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Dr. Thomas Scriba, Senior Researcher, South African TB Vaccine Initiative, University of Cape Town, South Africa - First runner-up: Scriba is honoured for his work on TB vaccines.

Dr. Dihadenys Lemus Molina, Tuberculosis National Reference Laboratory in Havana, Cuba, and Dr. Joy Sarojini Michael, Christian Medical College of Vellore, India - Joint second runner-up: Lemus Molina is honoured for her work in drug-resistant tuberculosis and Michael for her research in new TB diagnostics.
