2004 BA Research Grants underway
|
The Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP) organized meetings, 23-24 March 2005, to discuss the technicalities pertaining to the research grants of the BA Research Grants program, as well as the initiation of the inaugural phase for six of the winning projects. The program, initiated in February 2004, tackles research in diverse fields.
During the meeting, the phases and technicalities of each project were discussed and reviewed by the Technical Committee members, comprising Professor Asser Zaki; CSSP Board Member, Professor Salah Soliman; CSSP Board Member and Dr. Mohamed El Faham. The meetings also witnessed the signing of contracts by the Principal Researchers and Dr. Mohamed El Faham, representing BA.

BioVisionAlexandria 2006: New Life Sciences: Changing Lives

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing BioVisionAlexandria 2006 from 26 to 29 April, 2006 in Alexandria . The conference will be a continuation of the tradition that started in BioVision 1999 in Lyon , which aims to bring distinguished speakers in discussions commemorating science and the finest achievements of the human intellect.
The conference will present a unique opportunity for the international community to exchange ideas and develop a common vision for a better future of the sick and the poor. BioVisionAlexandria 2006 will be dedicated to the role of the New Life Sciences in Changing Lives.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina participates in the World Year of Physics 2005 celebrations
|
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) is joining the world in celebrating the World Year of Physics 2005, a United Nations endorsed, international celebration of physics. Worldwide events, throughout the year, will highlight the vitality of physics and its importance in the coming millennium, and will commemorate the pioneering contributions of Albert Einstein in 1905 and the introduction of three main theories of physics: Light quanta, Brownian motion and the special theory of relativity.

The world health report 2005 - make every mother and child count
|
The World Health Report 2005 – Make Every Mother and Child Count, says that this year almost 11 million children under five years of age will die from causes that are largely preventable. Among them are 4 million babies who will not survive the first month of life. At the same time, more than half a million women will die in pregnancy, childbirth or soon after. The report says that reducing this toll in line with the Millennium Development Goals depends largely on every mother and every child having the right to access to health care from pregnancy through childbirth, the neonatal period and childhood.

The Launch of the "Water for Life Decade" on World Water Day: 22 March 2005
|
World Water Day (WWD) 2005 was guided by the water decade"s theme Water for Life. 22 March 2005 was the starting day for this International Decade for Action, "Water for Life" 2005 - 2015, proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly.
