Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP), a research center established in July 2003 in the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, aims to play a significant role in the progress of science and technology in Egypt. The CSSP will help researchers and scientists to get the best support needed to advance their work through international collaborations.

Winners of Research Grants 2010 Sign their Contracts
On Monday, 9 May and during a ceremony held on the sideline of the Atlas of Islamic-World Science and Innovation- A Medium for Open Discussion Meeting, the four final RG2010 winners signed their contracts.
The ceremony was attended by Prof. Yousry El-Gamal, member of CSSP Board of Directors, E-Just BoT Chairman, and former Minister of Education; Dr. Mohamed El-Faham, Director of the Center for Special Studies and Programs (CSSP); Dr. Yehia Halim Zaki, Head of the BA Academic and Cultural Affairs Sector; and Dr. Salah Soliman, BA Consultant. In addition, high-caliber young researchers and former BA/CSSP RG winners also attended the ceremony.

Science Supercourse
Science Supercourse is a project jointly coordinated by Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Ronald Laporte, Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Disease Monitoring and Telecommunications at the University of Pittsburgh.
This effort was designed to improve information sharing among professionals and educators in four major fields of science: public health, agriculture, computer engineering, and environment. Lectures are shared in PowerPoint format to empower educators around the world.

The SSC is based on involving the community and encouraging professors and experts to participate by adding their own lectures to the website for the benefit of students and teachers everywhere.

The 2011 Ernesto Illy Trieste Science Prize

The 2011 Ernesto Illy Trieste Science Prize
TWAS, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, is seeking nominations for the 2011 Ernesto Illy Trieste Science Prize.
The Prize, sponsored by Trieste-based ILLYCAFFE, has been established to give international recognition and visibility to outstanding scientific achievements made by scientists living and working in the developing countries.
In 2011 the prize will be given for outstanding achievements in Materials Science.
The prize carries a US$100,000 monetary award and medal.
The deadline for receiving nominations is 20 July 2011.

African Union Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Awards

African Union Kwame Nkrumah Scientific Awards
With the support of its Development Partners particularly the European Commission, the African Union Commission, launched on 9 September 2008, the prestigious African Union Scientific Award Programme. The programme is implemented at national level for young researchers, regional level for women scientists and continental level open to all scientists. The Continental level is the highest and level of the programme.
The objective is to give out scientific awards to top African scientists for their scientific achievements and valuable discoveries and findings. Prizes are awarded to top African scientists in each of the following two sectors (a) Life and Earth Science; and (b) Basic Science, Technology and Innovation at the national, regional and continental levels.
The deadline for submission of applications shall be the 9th of September each year.
