New Life Sciences: Linking Science to Society
The registration for BioVisionAlexandria 2012 is now open!!
The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing its Sixth International Biennial Conference, BioVisionAlexandria (BVA) 2012, 22-25 April 2012, in Alexandria, Egypt. Under the theme “New Life Sciences: Linking Science to Society”, BVA 2012 aims at addressing the role science can play in achieving a fair, equal and just society, not only through scientific research but also policy adjustment.
The Conference will focus on three major themes: Health, Food and Agriculture, and Environment. Nobel Laureates and leaders in science, industry and society will gather to identify and set the priorities needed to rebuild society, and will also discuss how scientific research needs to be revolutionized in order to serve society, especially those who are less fortunate, thus, help society reach its full potential. It will also feature a special exhibition titled “BioFair@BioVisionAlexandria” and a Poster Session for young researchers and scientists.

Science Supercourse
Science Supercourse is a project jointly coordinated by Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Ronald Laporte, Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Disease Monitoring and Telecommunications at the University of Pittsburgh.
This effort was designed to improve information sharing among professionals and educators in four major fields of science: public health, agriculture, computer engineering, and environment. Lectures are shared in PowerPoint format to empower educators around the world.

The SSC is based on involving the community and encouraging professors and experts to participate by adding their own lectures to the website for the benefit of students and teachers everywhere.
If you are a Professor of Agriculture, Computer Engineering, Health or Environmental Health, be part of the SSC and upload your lectures.

OBASANJO PRIZE 2011
Deadline for Application: 25 July 2011
The Olusegun Obasanjo Prize for scientific discovery and/or technological Innovation is intended to reward and honor African scientists who have made outstanding contributions in scientific discovery or technological innovation.
The AAS ( African Academy of Science council) seeks to promote and foster growth of a vibrant African scientific community, and to stimulate and nurture the spirit of scientific discovery and technological innovation that would serve socio-economic development in Africa.
The Chief Obasanjo Prize will be awarded to each of the following fields:
1.Biotechnology
2.Energy
3.Information and communication technologies, and
4.Material sciences

DAAD Funding Programme for Special Master Courses in Germany
Deadline for Application: 31 July 2011
The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offers a special Funding Programmes for selected, development-related Master Courses in Germany. This programme is designed to qualify future leaders and change agents. It is for young professionals with an academic background in Politics, Law, Economics and Administration as well as a range of other disciplines such as the Natural and Engineering Sciences.
The scholarships are for two-year Master courses (in some cases shorter) at a range of carefully selected study programs at prestigious German institutions of Higher Education. The majority of these courses are taught in English. The scholarship holders will be offered special tutoring at their host institutions.

Summer School: The Exchange of Knowledge and the Awareness on EU Water Research and Technology State of the Art
The summer school will be held in Barcelona, Spain between the 26th and the 30th of September, 2011. It will target young researchers (PhD, PostDoc), water experts from industry and SMEs, and water practitioners from relevant stakeholders primarily from EU countries, EU associated countries and EU neighbouring countries.
A maximum number of 25 participants will be selected based on the following criteria:
1.Their familiarity with the topics pertaining to the STREAM Summer Schools
2.Their achievement in water related fields research;
3.They are representatives of entities considered as stakeholders;
4.Good knowledge of English.
