The BA Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies is organizing a lecture titled "A Sea of Stories: Why Maritime Cultural Heritage Matters to You", delivered by Dr. Danielle Newman, Honor Frost Foundation, UK. It is held on Wednesday, 15 March 2023; from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at the BA Conference Center, Delegates Hall.
Until recently, the submerged past was accessible only to academics and divers. Hidden beneath the waves or in laboratories, the public dissemination of information was limited to open days and museums. But changes in both technology and how archaeologists view their role in communicating heritage to a wider audience have opened this world to diverse audiences. Therefore, a range of public engagement initiatives have been created to meet the needs of both the public and heritage. Using case studies from around the world, this lecture will explore the different ways engagement can be used to improve our relationships to ourselves, our communities, our past, and humanity as a whole.
The lecture will be conducted in English.
