The BA Manuscripts Center, in cooperation with King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, organized a course on “Nabataean Script”. The course was held from 7 to 11 August 2016, and it was organized within the framework of executing the scientific cooperation agreement between the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies and the BA. Dr. Solaiman al-Theeb, a professor of ancient Arabic script at the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies, was a lecturer in the course.

This course aimed to train researchers—who are specialized in the field of ancient writings, inscriptions, and scripts—in reading Nabataean scripts and inscriptions, understanding Nabataean grammar, and being introduced to the political and social history of the Nabataeans. Dr. Solaiman al-Theeb also resorted to conducting practical training in reading inscriptions through holding mini-workshops for the trainees, as well as ... open discussions and contributions.

It is worth mentioning that the Nabataeans were Arab tribes that managed to establish a powerful kingdom in Southern Jordan, Southern Palestine, and Sinai between 2 BCE and 2 CE. The Nabataean kingdom also controlled the ancient trade routes between the East and the West.

The course attracted numerous researches from various Egyptian universities and from the Ministry of Antiquities, as well postgraduate students from Egyptian universities. The course is going to be held for a second time at the BA Sinnari House in Cairo from 21 to 23 August.
