The Bibliotheca Alexandrina hosts the second edition of the Tale of Two Cities exhibition in collaboration with Art D'Égypte. This cultural exchange, running from October 15 to November 4, 2024, aims to bridge the historical and cultural ties between Alexandria and Athens.

Following the success of the first edition in Athens earlier this year, Tale of Two Cities will showcase the artistic convergence between Greek and Egyptian artists. Their works will explore the deep-rooted historical bonds between the two cities, while celebrating their unique identities and contributions.

Dr. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, emphasized the significance of this exhibition, stating, "It celebrates the long-standing strong bonds between Alexandria and Athens and highlights their cultural heritage and interconnection through the artists' creations." Zayed affirmed that the Egyptian-Greek relations are solid and deep. “They are embodied in the corners of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina and manifested particularly in arts and culture”, he added.

Nadine Abdel Ghaffar, Founder of Art D'Égypte, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, particularly as a native Alexandrian. "This edition is a tribute to the rich history and cultural dialogue between Alexandria and Athens, and an opportunity to celebrate the timeless legacy that continues to shape our present and future."

Participating artists include Omar Toussoun, Said Badr, Esméralda Kosmatopoulos, Jean Boghossian, Antonella Leoni, Emilio Ferro, Hazem Elmestikawy, Karim El Hayawan, Sheikh Rashid Al Khalifa, Artur Lescher, Micha Cattui, Costas Varotsos and, for the first time, artist Hassan Ragab. Ragab's AI-generated video installation will delve into the historical and cultural connections between Greece and Egypt, exploring how their shared heritage has influenced art, architecture, and philosophy.

Visitors are invited to explore the rich cultural legacies of these two ancient civilizations through art, which has always been an integral part of their cultural fabric. Tale of Two Cities aims to celebrate the cultural exchange and inspire new interpretations.

The artworks will be displayed in various locations within the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, including the outdoor Plaza of Civilizations. The exhibition is open to the public from October 15 to November 4, 2024.
