"Draw and Research" Competition 2025 at the BA

Posted on

The BA Antiquities Museum is organizing a competition entitled “Draw and Research” for participants in the museum education activity, aged 13 to 19. The Museum is presenting this annual competition for the ninth consecutive year, as it gives special importance to museum education activity in order to spread archaeological awareness among children and young people, develop their talents, and showcase their artistic creativity.

The “Draw and Research” competition revolves around “A Small Statue of A Student”, which is a small statue made of a colored terracotta. The statue is of a student sitting on a chair while writing her lessons on a wax stella on her lap. The statue is of the “Tanagra” type, named after the city where the largest number of such statues have been discovered. These statues are made of well-fired clay and are painted in realistic colors, reflecting the clothing, hairstyle, and facial features. Tanagra statues appeared in Alexandria in large quantities, and their history spanned the fourth to second centuries BC.
