The BA is holding a ceremony on Monday, 22 August on the occasion of receiving the kiswah of the Holy Ka’abah, which has been given to the BA by Mr. Yashar Helmy.
Mohamed Abd el-Zahir, the governor of Alexandria; Dr. Roshdy Zahran, the president of Alexandria University; and a number of officials, ambassadors, and consuls will be participating in the ceremony.
Covering the Kaʿbah with an ornamented cloth is a 600 year old tradition. The kiswah is a handmade masterpiece made of 50 different pieces of pure silk, and it is ornamented with embroidered Qurʾānic verses of silver and gold thread.
It is noteworthy that one of the old kiswahs of the Ka’aba is on display at the United Nations (UN) headquarters. This kiswah was given to the UN as a gift from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
