“The Culture of Human Rights and Enhancing Participation among University Students” Workshop

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina launched yesterday morning a workshop entitled "Spreading the Culture of Human Rights and Enhancing Participation among University Students", organized by the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the BA; Dr. Sameh Fawzy, Senior Researcher at the BA; Mr. Essam Shiha, President of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights and member of the National Council for Human Rights; and Dr. Fayza Zayed, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Solidarity in Alexandria.
Prof. Zayed stressed the importance of raising the awareness of young people about human rights and of respecting the rights of others, while exchanging social relations with them.
The first session of the workshop was entitled "The Nature of Human Rights and Political Participation (Concepts - Principles - Characteristics)", delivered by journalist Hamdy Rizk.
In the second session, Dr. Al-Shaimaa El-Demerdash, Director of the BA Heritage Revival Project, and board member of the Egyptian Swimming Federation, tackled the subject of sports and human rights.
In the third and final session, Mr. Hamdy Rizk addressed the guarantees of international protection of human rights, human rights organizations, international laws, and the Egyptian human rights strategy.
The workshops will continue today with three lectures by Dr. Sameh Fawzy; Law Professor Dr. Suzi Adly Nashed; and Dr. Ahmed Wahban, Dean of the Faculty of Economic Studies and Political Science at Alexandria University.
