The Bibliotheca Alexandrina organized the "Metropolitan Seminar", which included a series of seminars, workshops, and field visits aimed at enhancing the understanding of metropolitan areas and studying the current changes in Alexandria, held in a collaborative framework with different Mediterranean capitals. Montpellier in France and Alexandria in Egypt were selected as study cases this year.

The program also featured a panel discussion entitled “Building a Contemporary Matrix for Mediterranean Cities: What is the Common DNA of Mediterranean Cities?”, and concluded with a preparatory workshop for the Third United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3), which will be held in Nice, in June 2025.

The workshop started with an opening speech by Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), and Dr. Robin Degron, Director of Plan Bleu, in the presence of Ms. Lina Blin, Consul General of France in Alexandria, and a group of experts and specialists.

The event was organized by the Agency for Sustainable Mediterranean Cities and Territories (AVITEM), the BA Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med), and the BA Sustainable Development Studies Program, in cooperation with the Consulate of France in Alexandria and the French Development Agency (AFD).
