The Young People’s Library (YP) offers a vast world of knowledge, entertainment, and culture for young people aged 12 to 16. The YP introduces its visitors to modern information technology, develops their reading and research skills and encourages social interaction.
YP librarians provide students with the necessary material for school assignments. The YP book collection covers the same topics as in the Main Library but is more tailored to the tastes of young people. The YP Library offers access to periodicals, multimedia, e-resources, and a number of databases covering a variety of subjects.
The YP Library participated in the Future Programmers Competition, conducted and organized by the Information Technology Institute at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and received four prizes: 4th prize for creating an astronomy website, 2nd prize for creating a film using Adobe Premiere, and 4th and 1st prize (in 2005 and 2006 respectively) for creating and designing a website about world cities. Members of the YP Library participated three times in the Young Digital Creators (YDC) program of UNESCO’s portal DigiArts and were the winners of the UNESCO Digital Arts Award in 2005, 2006, and 2007. The YP Library also participated in the International Schools’ Cyber Fair Competition, the largest educational event of its kind ever held over the Internet, and received three prizes: the Silver Award for designing a website on the Alexandria beach erosion in 2008, the first prize in 2009, and the Platinum Award in 2010. Members of the YP Library won the second Gold Award in the "Doors to Diplomacy" Educational Competition in 2010 and were among the top finalists in the Peace Pals Art Exhibition in 2009 and 2010.
