The show is a four-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi composed on the orders of the Khedive Ismail. It narrates the love story between Aida, an Ethiopian princess who was enslaved in Egypt, and Radames, a military commander who struggles to choose between his love for her and his loyalty to the Pharaoh.
