Algirdas J. Greimas (1917- 1992) is a francophone Semiologist and Linguist from Lithuanian origins who founded Structural Semiotics. He lived in Alexandria between 1949 and 1958 where he taught the history of French language at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University.
