The great success of the 1st Imagining the Book exhibition, organized at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) in 2002, brought about the decision by BA to turn the exhibition into a Biennale, organized every two years at the Library of Alexandria.

Imagining the Book II is comprised of three main areas of activity:

  • The exhibition itself (14 April to 21 May in the Exhibition Halls at the BA Conference Center)
  • An international workshop
  • An international seminar

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina wishes the Biennale to become a meeting point for different cultures and many researchers all intent on conceptualizing the “book" as a work of art. Imagining the Book II, as did the 1st event, aims at presenting the book as a concept, as opposed to an object. Various artistic practices attempt to convey the conceptual essence of the book through visual representations that take on many artistic formats (Sculpture, Installation, Video, etc).
