The Conference aims at achieving a more profound vision of women issues by moving from partial approaches to holistic outlooks that examine conceptual fundaments and reconsider these fundaments from different perspectives; proposing contemporary visions of ijtihad (Islamic reasoning) that stem from an Islamic ground that encompasses a rich variety of visions related to Fiqh and Shariah that were not reduced or minimized into specific views; asserting the links and bridges between Shariah-based ijtihad/ reasoning carried out by forthright Islamic scholars, and women-based ijtihad carried out by women researchers, concerning equality between genders based on an Islamic understanding; attempting to develop the tools and methods of feminist Islamic research; launching the Alexandria Declaration on Women Rights to become an all-inclusive frame for the rights of contemporary Muslim women that stems from an Islamic ground; and establishing a network of researchers interested in exploring women issues from an Islamic vision.
