The BA Writings and Script Center will host a lecture, as part of the November cultural season, titled “The Inscriptions of Cornelius Gallus between Literature and Politics”, which will be given by Dr. Magda el-Noemi, a professor of Greek and Latin at the University of Alexandria.
The lecture will explain the phrase “politics of literature, and literature of politics” through the inscriptions of Cornelius Gallus, which were influenced by both politics and literature. Apart from being the first Roman governor of Egypt, Cornelius Gallus was also, most probably, the poet who introduced “elegiac” poetry to Rome. He is also considered to be a significant poet of the Augustan era.
