ACM ICPC is a two-tiered competition among teams of students representing institutions of higher education. Teams first compete in regional contests held around the world from October to December each year. The winning team from each regional contest advances to the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest World Finals, typically held the following March to mid-April. Additional high-ranking teams may be invited to the World Finals as wild card teams. ANARC draws students from colleges and universities throughout North Africa and the Middle East.

This year ANARC will be held in the Arab Academy for Science and Technology in Alexandria and the World Finals will be held April 6-10, 2008, at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Alberta, Canada, hosted by the University of Alberta celebrating its 100th anniversary.
