This course analyzes the development of maritime archaeology and its related areas of study in order to facilitate a better understanding of archaeology as a whole. The course will also evaluate specific maritime cultural aspects, such as coastal communities, trade and exchange, and ships as symbols and manifestations of social change.


The Alexandria Center for Hellenistic Studies was established as a joint collaboration between the BA, the Vardinoyannis Foundation and the University of Alexandria. Graduates of Classics departments from Egypt or elsewhere will be able to apply directly for a Masters degree; non-specialists will have to take the diploma first, and score a minimum of 80/100. Courses follow the credit hour system, with a thesis submitted at the end.
