Alexandria — The High Dam in a Lecture at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Alexandria- the Youth for Sustainable Development and Better Understanding Program organized by the Center for Special Studies and Programs is holding a series of lectures on education, environment, and population growth. In this context, the CSSP is organizing on Saturday, 19 August 2006, a lecture entitled High Dam: Role and Impact on the Environment by Dr. Salah Soliman, Professor of Pesticide Chemistry and Toxicology, Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University. In the lecture, Dr. Salah will discuss the positive and negative aspects of building the High Dam and its impacts on the environment.

The High Dam protects Egypt from floods and droughts simultaneously. Lake Nasser reduces the flow of water and stores it for use during dry years. The High Dam also increases the agricultural lands, and is a main source of electricity.

The lecture will start at 17:00 hrs, at the second floor meeting room, BA Conference Center, open to the public.
