The New BA: Reflections on a Journey of Achievements—A New Book by the BA

Alexandria— As part of the BA celebrations on its fifth anniversary, the BA issued a book entitled "The New Bibliotheca Alexandrina: Reflections on a Journey of Achievements" by Dr. Mohsen Zahran, former Director General Organization for the Alexandria Library (GOAL), and former Advisor to the BA Director.
Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, wrote the foreword of the 300-page publication, which is divided into 12 chapters. The first chapter starts with a review of the Ancient Library of Alexandria, the most renowned library in the Ancient World and Middle Ages, as it advocated knowledge and openness on the other.
Chapters two and three include information on the birth of the revival idea and the national support and international community involvement, especially from UNESCO, in addition to the Aswan Meeting of the International Commission in 1990, attended by world leaders who declared their commitment to transfer the dream of the New Library of Alexandria into reality.
The fourth chapter is dedicated to the International Architectural Competition, which was launched for the design of the New Library of Alexandria, and won by Snohetta a.s. Norway. The General Organization of the Library of Alexandria was established along with the Executive Secretariat, supported by states and governments and international friends associations.
Dr. Zahran concluded the book by a future outlook on the BA and its pioneer cultural role, not only in Egypt and the region, but in the entire world; and reminiscences of the those who contributed to the ultimate realization of the Revival of the Ancient Library of Alexandria Project, leading them were HE President Hosni Mubarak, and HE Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, Chairperson of the BA Board of Trustees.
