Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, extended an invitation to HE Ms Khalida Toumi, Algerian Minister of Culture, to participate in the Sixth Alexandrina International Book Fair as the guest of honor. The Fair will be held this year in cooperation with the Union of Egyptian Publishers during the period from 21 February to 5 March 2008.
HE Ms Khalida Toumi accepted to participate in this huge cultural event and donated several books and publication on the Algerian culture to the BA.
Dr. Khaled Azab, Director of the BA Media Department, stated that around 70 publishing houses will participate in the Fair held in Kouta Exhibition Area, on top of which is the General Egyptian Book Organization, in addition to extensive participation from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait. He added that several cultural events will be also held on the fringe lines of the Fair, especially as Alexandria was chosen the Capital of Islamic Culture for the year 2008, referring to the invitation extended by Dr. Serageldin to Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Twaijri, Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) to participate in the Fair.
It is worth mentioning that the Alexandrina International Book Fair achieved a huge success last year in terms of the number of participating countries and a quarter of a million visitors. The National Council for Culture, Arts, and Literature in Kuwait was the guest of honor of last year Alexandrina Fair, in appreciation of the cooperation between the Council and the BA.
