Serageldin Discusses the Problems of Egyptian Society in the Specialized Advisory Committees Meeting

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, met with members of the Advisory Committees on Thursday, 5 June 2008, at the BA, to enhance the BA’s scientific, cultural and artistic vision through dialogue, exchange of views and experiences.
Dr. Serageldin said that the purpose of this meeting is to review the BA’s past five years accomplishments as well as the previous work plans proposed by the Advisory Committees. He emphasized that the participation of Egyptian intellectuals enriched the BA collections and activities.
Dr. Serageldin pointed out that the BA will try to practice its role in developing Egyptian governorates culturally. Dr. Serageldin added that resolving current pressing issues within the Egyptian society should be based on scientific thinking, and on dialogue and discussions between scientists and intellectuals.
Following the meeting with the committee members, the Advisory Committees held their nine meetings to discuss the BA’s mission and activities and to propose new projects targeting local and international audience, in the field of media, literature, translation, humanities, history, geography, science, technology, dialogue of civilizations and religions.
