Serageldin Participates in the Inauguration of Jacques Chirac Foundation

Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, participated in the inauguration ceremony of the Jacques Chirac Foundation, founded by former President Jacques Chirac to fight poverty, achieve sustainable development and promote a dialogue among cultures on Monday, 9 June 2008.
The Celebration was attended by a large number of international dignitaries including: Kofi Annan, Former UN Secretary-General; Rajendra Pachauri and Rigoberta Menchu, Nobel Peace Prize Laureates; Abdou Diouf, Former President of Senegal; and Senegalese Singer Youssou N'Dour.
The Foundation received one million Euros as a endowment from Lilian Betancourt (L'Oréal Group) and Francois Pinault (PPR).
