Dr. Serageldin Attends TWAS Silver Jubilee

On the occasion of the 25th Anniversary Celebration of the Academy of Sciences in the Developing World (TWAS), Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria and Vice President of TWAS for the Arab World, will be attending the 28th TWAS Council Meeting on 9 November 2008, the TWAS 19th General Meeting on 10 November 2008, the 25th Anniversary Celebration on 10 November 2008, in Mexico. The meetings and celebration will include a series of Jubilee Lectures given by eminent scientists and Nobel Laureates.
TWAS is an international organization, founded in 1983 in Trieste, Italy, by a distinguished group of scientists from the South under the leadership of the late Nobel laureate Abdus Salam of Pakistan. The Academy's mission is to promote scientific excellence and capacity in the South for science-based sustainable development.
During his visit to Mexico, Serageldin is also invited by Lourdes Arizpe, Professor at the National University of Mexico and Member of the BA Board of Trustees, to give a lecture at the University about “The BA as a Cultural and Scientific Project in the Context of Globalization”. Meetings will also be held for setting up collaboration agreements between the BA and the University as well as with the National Library.
