Call for Application for the First Alexandria World Music Festival at the BA
Posted on
Alexandria— The BA Arts Center is organizing the First Alexandrina World Music Festival from 4 to 10 April 2009. The European Commission will contribute substantially to the organization of this festival by its cultural expertise and financial support. In the hope of becoming a biennale to take place every two years, the Festival aims at establishing a “colorful map of music” in the consciousness and taste of the public and participating musicians.
The Festival would also provide possibilities for musicians to experience the potential of developing diverse musical trends, free from the moral pressure of official institutions and financial pressure of commercialism. Musical genres incorporating diverse styles from selected countries from the Mediterranean region and Europe, as well as guest groups from Iran, will be performed. Artists, scholars, critics and specialized journalists would share their experiences and promote cross-cultural collaborations and insights.
Individuals and groups who would like to participate in the Festival should send a recent CV by e-mail, or mail in English, as well as an audio-visual DVD, Youtube extract or a website link, as a sample of their latest audible performances. A Jury committee is formed to select from the received material. Deadline for receiving the CVs and audio samples is 15 January 2009. Selected individuals and groups will be announced by the end of January 2009. For more information on the Festival, please Click here to view the invitation letter.
