“Antarctica: A Desert of Ice” Exhibition at the BA

Alexandria—On the occasion of the Egypt-Italy Science Year 2009 (EISY 2009), the BA Planetarium Science Center (PSC) is organizing an Exhibition entitled “Antarctica: A Desert of Ice” from 31 March to 20 June 2009.
The Exhibition takes the viewer through Antarctica’s spectacular landscapes. One and a half times the size of Europe, extraordinary treasures are buried beneath the two immense ice sheets blanketing this continent: mountain chains, volcanoes and freshwater lakes. The Antarctic continent is the only place on Earth that has never witnessed a war, where an entry passport is not required, and where international collaboration is the rule and not the exception. The displayed images will help us understand the characteristics of this continent, its history, and life.
“Antarctica: A Desert of Ice” is a travelling exhibition. It was shortly on display during the Science Festivity 2009 at the BA Plaza, and it took a tour starting with Aswan, Luxor, Qena, Sohag, Asyut, Elmeniya and Beni Suef. Currently displaying at Elgona, the exhibition will continue to Ismailia, Port Said and Cairo. It will return to the BA during the celebrations of the World Environmental Day (WED 2009).
