Dr. Ismail Serageldin Vice President of the Third World Academy for Science

Serageldin, Director of the BA, was elected as vice president of the Third World
Academy for Science. This Academy is considered to be one of the renowned
international science academies.
It also
includes a selection of prominent scientists from different third world
countries.
The members of
the Academy elected Dr. Ismail Serageldin as vice president of the Arab region
for 3 consecutive years starting from January 2004 till the end of December
2006.
The Academy
appoints five vice presidents each responsible for a geographical district or
region.
The third world Academy for Science is one of the distinguished international science
academies, headed by professor C.N.R. Rao, the renowned Indian scientist.
The first president of the academy was the Pakistani professor Abdus Salam, who
was the 1st Muslim scientist to receive the Nobel Prize in physics in
1979.
The
last meeting was held in Peking celebrating the 20th
anniversary for the establishment of the Academy.
