The BA Celebrates the Centennial of Ahmed Badrakhan’s Birthday

Alexandria—The BA Arts Center celebrates the Centennial of Director Ahmed Badrakhan’s birth (1909-1969) by screening his film Mostafa Kamel on Egyptian Cinema Day, 21 June 2009.

Mostafa Kamel (115 min) was chosen by the BA as one of the 100 most important Egyptian movies. When Badrakhan produced the film in 1952, he believed it would be a historical record of a glorious part of our national history.

Director Ahmed Badrakhan is considered a pioneer of the Egyptian cinema. He was born in a small village in Fayoum, and received his specialized education in France where he studied Cinema and Direction. He was the first to write a book of artistic value about cinema. Badrakhan worked as a technical consultant at the Corporation for Cinema Support and he taught at the Cinema Institute. He was in charge of the Cinematographers’ Syndicate and the first Head of the Artistic Syndicate Union. Badrakhan won the State Order of Merit in 1954, and the Order of Arts in 1962.

The film will be screened at 7 pm at the BA Auditorium.
