The BA Participates in Alexandria’s First International Cultural Festival

Alexandria— The BA, in cooperation with more than 20 cultural centers and Consulates, organizes the Alexandria’s first International Festival, AlexFest 2009, from 17-31 October, under the auspices General Adel Labib, Governor of Alexandria.
AlexFest will be the first of its kind in Egypt and will signal the launch of Alexandria's ambitious program to mark the city as the Capital of Arab Tourism 2010. David Wardrop, President of the British Friends of the BA, stated that “We started contacting and linking up with officials in government, education, culture, communication, shipping, public utilities and business sectors. Many volunteers have already offered their services to take part in the organization of the festival.”
The festival will feature music, theatre, poetry, exhibitions, films and sporting events. AlexFest will host big events at the Qaitbey Citadel, Sayed Darwish Opera House , the Alexandria Centre for Arts , and the Library. Free entertainment will be available in the city's beautiful gardens along with a full sporting program. The 2009 festival program will feature over one hundred events including performances and exhibitions organized by the international diplomatic and cultural communities to ensure that the festival will be truly international.
The festival program will be available in the city's tourist offices, hotels, participating venues and clubs. Other participants and supporters of the festival include the Alexandria Business Association, the Anna Lindh Foundation, Alexandria Center of Arts, Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, Alexandria Sporting Club, Egyptian Hotels Association, the Egyptian Tourism Authority, the Industrial Modernization Center, the Rotary International, Suzanne Mubarak Regional Center for Women’s Health and Development and the Embassies or Consulates of France, Germany, UK, Spain, Russia, Italy, USA, Sweden, Mexico, Greece and Turkey.
