“Tarnima”,
or “Hymn for the eternal light of spirit”, is a photo exhibition by the
Italian photographer Rosetta Messori that is on show at the Bibliotheca
Alexandrina from 3 to 17 July 2003.. Messori’s exhibition consists of more
than 40 photographs, including 20 that are being displayed in Egypt for the
first time. It reflects a panorama of typical Arab settings and cultural
environment, highlighting the desert, old cities, the market place, mosques and
people at prayers among other things. The artist creates a special harmony
between light and shade by using abstractions of human beings and a blurring of
the features of nature. “The exhibition aims at strengthening the common
cultural roots underlying both Italian and Egyptian civilizations, together with
all the countries of the Mediterranean basin” Antonio Badini, Ambassador of
Italy to Egypt said. The Exhibition is organized jointly by the Italian General Consulate in
Alexandria and the Italian Cultural Institute in Cairo.
