Serageldin Awarded Lifetime Africa Achievement Prize

A distinguished delegation from Ghana visited Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria on 24 February 2010, as directed by HRM Otumfo Osei Tutu II, King of Ashanti, the biggest tribe in Ghana, to announce to Serageldin that he has been chosen for the Lifetime Africa Achievement Prize 2010.
The prize is awarded by Ghana’s Excellence Awards Foundation, a private institution established in 1999, which presents the Millennium Excellence Award every five years, to honor outstanding achievement by individuals who have selflessly served the continent of Africa and contributed to its socio-economic development.
The delegation, made up of Professor Atukwei Okai, Chairman of the Board of Governors; Honorable Samia Nkrumah (Daughter of Kwame Nkrumah), Vice Chairman; Sapna Muhki and Lovelace Prempeh, Governors, also came to invite Serageldin to the award ceremony to be held in Accra, which will be a national event attended by a great number of people from all over Africa, as well as African royalty and heads of state.
Previous recipients of the award are Kofi Annan, Former UN Secretary General ; and Jerry Jon Rawlings, former President of Ghana.
