ICOM Egypt Celebrates Egyptian Museums in Fayoum

The Egyptian national committee for museums of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) is organizing three days of extensive activities at the Faculty Of Archaeology, Fayoum University, from 14 to 16 March 2017. Dr. Khaled Azab, Head of the committee, stated that the activities aim to introduce Fayoum University students to Egyptian museums and Egypt’s national history and heritage. The events will include a Culturama show, prepared and executed by the BA Center for Documentation of Cultural and Natural Heritage (CULTNAT), displaying heritage sites in Egypt through a series of interactive presentations.

Dr. Atef Mansour, Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology at Fayoum University, announced that the university will host the ICOM Egypt periodic meeting. Within the context of this event, Dr. Tarek Sayed Tawfik will give a lecture on the Grand Egyptian Museum project.

In cooperation with the BA ICT Sector, and under the aegis of ICOM, the Egyptian national committee for museums is organizing a practical course on virtual museums for the staff and students of Fayoum University. This course, which will be held at Fayoum University for the first time, aims to transmit and communicate the technology of virtual museums to architecture, information technology, civil engineering, archaeology, history, fine arts, and tourism students. Such technologies are currently used at the most renowned museums around the world, and they greatly contribute to documenting displayed items and promoting museums.
