Animal Farm in a Play Reading at the BA

Posted on

The Reference Services Unit is holding its monthly play reading in English on Wednesday, 9 June 2010. Participants will read Animal Farm based on the novel with the same name by George Orwell and adapted by Peter Hall.

Animal Farm is a dystopian (anti-utopian) allegorical text that satirizes the former Soviet Union. It opens with the animals revolting against the farm owner, renaming it “Animal Farm” and creating their own philosophy, “Animalism”. However, slowly, the pigs take over the farm, reducing Animalism to “all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others”. Towards the end, the common animals can no longer tell which are the pigs and which are the human beings.

The session starts at 16:00 hrs. at the BA Arts and Multimedia Library. Participants should register their names at the General Information Desk at the Library entrance.
