Posted on

The BA launched the fourth phase of the “Big Read; Egypt/ U.S.” project which aims at introducing American literature to Egyptian readers and vice versa. The Big Read 2010 focuses on Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.

The phase started with a Drama Workshop. On 29 July 2010, Huckleberry Finn (1993) will be screened. The film is preceded by an Introduction by Ahmed Nabil, BA Film Program Coordinator.

First published in 1884, Huckleberry Finn is commonly recognized as one of the great American novels, and among the first to be written in the vernacular, characterized by local color regionalism. The book is a satire of the major practices of the southern American society before the Civil War, especially racism.

The first phase of the “Big Read” witnessed several activities around the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The second phase focused on Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, while the third phase tackled Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck.
