Cartography in Cairo Salon
Posted on
The weekly Cairo Salon TV Show, presented by Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, devotes two episodes on “Maps”. The first part will be aired on Channel One on Friday, 1 October 2010, at 8:30 pm.
Serageldin hosts Dr. Fathy Abu-Rady, Professor of Natural Geography and Remote Sensing, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, and Marwa Abd El-Salam, MA candidate, Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University.
The episode deals with the study of maps as an independent domain separate from Geography, known as Cartography. It is a mix of art and science for a cartographer should have a mathematical twist of mind as well as artistic skills. The episode tackles the increasing significance of maps to the extent that separate institutes and departments were devoted to that end.
