Phedra in a Play Reading at the BA

Posted on

The Reference Services Unit is holding its monthly play reading in French on Wednesday, 1 December 2010. Participants will read Phedra by Jean Racine.

The play revolves around the tragedy of Phedra, wife of Theseus, who has fallen in love with her step-son, Hippolytus. After her husband is announced dead, Phedra reveals her love. However, Theseus comes back, and Phedra, ashamed of herself, considers suicide. Worried about her mistress, Phedra’s nurse tells her master that it was Hippolytus who is to blamed. What will happen amidst this sense of shame, guilt and consciousness?

The session starts at 16:00 hrs. at the BA Arts and Multimedia Library. Participants should register their names at the General Information Desk at the Library entrance.
