Under the auspices of Dr. Fathy Sorour, President of the Egyptian People's Assembly, the BA launched preliminary activities in El-Sennary House, Cairo, on Sunday, 2 January 2011.
The activities commenced with the Book Launch of Diwan Al-Khat Al-Araby fi Misr (Divan of Arab Calligraphy in Egypt), co-organized with Arab Calligraphy Association, chaired by Artist Khodir El-Borsaeidy, who also wrote the titles of the book in his own handwriting. Published by the BA Calligraphy Center, the book is a research project that lasted for 7 years.
This Center aims at reviving the role of L'Institut d'Egypte, which was established by Napoleon Bonaparte in El-Sennary House, where the famous Le description de l'Egypte was compiled. El-Sennary House will witness various activities including a literary salon for youth, art exhibitions, concerts, educational courses in Calligraphy, Hieroglyphics and Coptic Language, and scientific roundtable discussions on different levels.
