The 2018 Big Read Closing Ceremony

The BA is organizing the 2018 Big Read closing ceremony, on Wednesday, 26 September. The Big Read is held at the BA for the tenth consecutive year, from June to September 2018, in cooperation with AMIDEAST and the Egyptian Association of the BA Friends.

The Big Read is a summer program targeting adults (from the age of 16 onwards), where various activities are held on a particular literary work in order to encourage the public to read and express their ideas creatively. This year’s program focused on two short stories: Al-Qalb al-Washy (The Tell-Tale Heart) and Qenaa al-Mawt al-Ahmar (The Masque of the Red Death) by Edgar Allan Poe. It also included various competitions, interviews and workshops, including the “Think and Express” workshop for the deaf and hearing impaired.

The closing ceremony will include theatrical performances of Al-Qalb al-Washy and Qenaa al-Mawt al-Ahmar, products of the drama workshop, in which participants turn stories into plays then perform the work on stage, in addition to composing music pieces specifically for the shows.

The shows are held on Wednesday, 26 September 2018, from 6:00 pm at the BACC Small Theater. Free tickets for the theatrical shows will be available from Thursday, 20 September 2018 at the Information desk, in the BA reading area.
