Dr. Moustafa Elfeki, Director of the BA, in collaboration with Professor Thierry Verdel, Dean of Senghor University, chairs the opening session of the international seminar “From Stone to Writing, and from Writing to Digitization: What are the Means for Heritage Protection?” which takes place on Monday, 25 February 2019, at 6:00 pm, at the BA.

The seminar revolves around the remarkable development achieved by the technology of digitization in preserving tangible and intangible human heritage. This comes at a time when cultural heritage, around the world and particularly in the Arab region, is threatened by destruction and deterioration as a result of the barbaric terrorist attacks and the ongoing military conflicts in the Arab World that lead to the robbery and smuggling of rare antiquities abroad. International Expert Ms. Bénédicte Savoy, Professor of Art History at the Collège de France and the opening session’s guest of honor, will deliver a lecture on “The Historical Collections and the Future of Digitization.”

The seminar will also shed light on the economic, legal and artistic challenges that face the success of digitization, as well as the important participation of cultural institutions and major libraries in exchanging views and experiences that guarantee the preservation of cultural heritage for future generations.
