Posted on

In celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the BA Library Sector is organizing a lecture entitled “Combating Violence against Women Legislatively and Judicially: The Reality and Prospectives.” It is held on Tuesday, 22 November 2022, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, in the BACC Small Theater, and delivered by Dr. Tamer Abdullah Al-Awa, PhD in Public Law, Faculty of Law, Alexandria University.

Violence against women is one of the most prevalent and persistent human rights violations, with women being subjected to physical and psychological abuse, sometimes amounting to loss of life. Here comes the essential role played by society in confronting the phenomenon of violence from the legislative and judicial point of view – a phenomenon that constitutes a danger and a violation of cultural values. Therefore, enabling women to live in an environment free of violence is essential for the development of societies, and is one of the basic principles enshrined in international conventions.

The lecture will address the following:

  • The definition of violence against women in legal language and terminology.
  • Causes of violence against women.
  • Types of violence against women.
  • The reality and prospectives, from a legislative standpoint, of combating violence against women.
  • Realistic and judicial applications to combat violence against women.

The lecture is open for public without prior reservation. Attendance is on a first-come, first-served basis.
