The BA Mourns Prof. Fathi Abu Ayanah

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina mourns Prof. Fathi Abu Ayanah, Professor of Human Geography at the Faculty of Arts, Alexandria University, former President of Beirut University, and former Vice President of Alexandria University, who passed away at the age of eighty-four, hoping that God Almighty will bestow His mercy on him. On behalf of the Library administration and employees, Prof. Ahmed Zayed, Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, extends his sincere condolences to the family and students of the deceased.
Prof. Abu Ayanah obtained his professorship in 1981, had a prominent role in the academic and university administrative work, and produced research and scientific books in his field of specialization (human geography) in both Arabic and English. He also received a number of awards, most notably the State Appreciation Award in Social Sciences in 2016 from the Supreme Council of Culture. He was a member of the Supreme Council of Culture, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Grievances at the Supreme Council of Universities, and was constantly part of the BA activities and maintained a permanent presence in the Egyptian cultural community.
