Artistic activities in October

Alexandria, 4 October 2005— The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is organizing a collection of events during the month of October. The Letter and the Image Exhibition, held within the framework of celebrating one of the most prominent Greek poets, Constantine Cavafy, will begin on 9 October. The exhibition will display drawings of the graphical works of the French artist, Robert Massin, and will continue till 12 October 2005. He will also present a seminar entitled Music, Writing and Printing, on 10 October. On the same day, a play, “I, François Villon”, directed by Michel de Maulne, will take place.
11 October will feature poetry readings “Traditions and new voices from the Mediterranean” and “Voice of the Mediterranean”, as well as the musical play “Le cabaret du Chat Noir”.
The Centenary of Chinese Cinema, showing two films from China and one film from Zaire, will be held 23-25 October. All films are open to the BA audience, and admission is free.
The film Life on a String, directed by Chen Kaige in 1991, will be screened on 24 October, while the following day will witness screening of Those Left Behind, directed by Hu Xue Yang in 1992. On the final day, the film The King, the Cow and the Banana Tree directed by Mweze D. Ngangoura in 1994, will be shown.
