Islamic Manuscript Arts

The BA Manuscripts Center, in cooperation with the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts, is organizing a course in Islamic manuscript arts from 15 to 19 February 2015.
The five-day course will be supervised by Dr. Faisal al-Hafyan, Supervisor of the Institute of Arabic Manuscripts; Dr. Medhat Issa, Head of the BA Manuscripts Center; and a select group of professors and experts. The course will cover the basic elements and disciplines of Islamic manuscripts, such as codicology and philology. The course will also deal with the artistic aspects of manuscripts, such as images, ornaments, colors, and binding.
This course is considered to be the first of its kind in the Arab world and possibly even worldwide. It will mainly benefit Archaeology and Fine Arts graduates, manuscript indexers, manuscript experts in libraries and information centers, and those generally interested in manuscript arts.
The participation fee for this course is EGP 300 for individuals and students and EGP 600 for candidates nominated by institutions. As for foreigners, the fee is USD 300 for individuals and students and USD 600 for candidates nominated by institutions.

Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Priority will be given to those who have previously studied or worked in a field that is related to the course subject.
The application deadline is Tuesday, 4 February 2015. Successful applicants will be notified no later than Thursday, 5 February 2015.
