Venice Biennale 2006

Alexandria 05 February 2006—The Bibliotheca Alexandrina and the Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex-Med) are honored to announce that Dr. Mohamed Awad, Director of Alex-Med, has been selected by Mr. Farouk Hosni, Minister of Culture, as a Commissioner for the Egyptian pavilion in the Architecture Biennale to be held in Venice in September 2006. The theme of this year’s Biennale is the “design of cities, their infrastructure and social dynamics”. Globalization, inter-relations and exchange will be at the top of the agenda.

The Venice Biennale has always been the in the avant-garde, promoting new artistic trends and organizing international events since it was founded in 1895. It is world-beating for the International Film Festival (62 editions), for the International Art Exhibition (51 editions) and for the International Architecture Exhibition (9 editions), and continues the great tradition of the Festival of Contemporary Music (49 editions) and Theatre (37 editions), now flanked by the Festival of Contemporary Dance (3 editions).
