The BA Signs a Cooperation Agreement with the Arab World Institute in Paris

Alexandria— The BA signed a cooperation agreement with the Arab World Institute in Paris, on Sunday, 20 January 2008. Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria and Mr. Dominique Baudis, President of the Arab World Institute in Paris, signed the agreement during a press conference held on the fringe lines of the " Dialogue among People and Cultures in the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Areas Conference", which is organized by the Institute for Peace Studies (IPS), from 19 to 21 January 2008.

Dr. Ismail Serageldin stated that meetings on the dialogue among civilizations are a great opportunity to reach such agreements enriching dialogue and cultural exchange among peoples. He stressed that this comprehensive agreement supports the ongoing relations between the BA and the Institute.

Mr. Dominique Baudis, President of the Arab World Institute, stated that during his last visit to the BA, he much admired the digital projects developed by the BA during the last five years, and looked forward for cooperating with the BA, as one of the leading institutions in the digital age.

Baudis announced the plan of the Arab World Institute to cooperate with the BA in establishing a series of cultural projects, including exhibitions, seminars and meetings, on top of which is an exhibition on Napoléon Bonaparte and Egypt, as part of the celebration on the 200 anniversary of Description de l’Egypte . Other exhibitions will be also held as part of the agreement on eminent Egyptian figures, such as: Om Kulthum, Taha Hussein, and Naguib Mahfouz, along with an exhibition on Contemporary Arab Architecture in the Gulf.

Dr. Ismail Serageldin stated that the cooperation between the Institute and BA dates back to past cultural events. The Arab World Institute co-organized "Hassan Fathy" exhibition which was held during the BA’s celebration on its fifth anniversary. The Institute also contributed in many international conferences hosted by the BA. Dr. Serageldin emphasized that the agreement is only a basis for ongoing cooperation in the future.
