On the Fringe Lines of the Fifth Arab Reform Conference, the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights Wins Dr. Adel Abu Zahra’s Prize

Alexandria— Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, declared on Tuesday, 4 March 2008 the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights the winner of the fourth round of Dr. Adel Abu Zahra’s Prize, which is given annually by the BA to civil society organizations serving environment preservation, women empowerment, freedom of expression and dialogue, and artistic creativity.

Nihad Abu El Komsan, Head of the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights accepted the award in a celebration held at the BA. The award is fifty thousand pounds along with Dr. Adel Abu Zahra’s shield, which is an artistic red bronze work by Dr. Tarek Zabady.

Dr. Serageldin stated that Dr. Hesham El Sherif, Chairman of the Regional Information Technology and Software Engineering Center, decided to contribute half the value of the Award beginning this year, while the other half will be contributed by the BA, making the prize fifty thousand pounds instead of twenty thousand only. He added that this year’s prize is awarded in the area of women's empowerment, and next year it will be awarded for achievements in the field of environmental conservation.
