The Electronic Resources Center (ERC), Sharing the Knowledge!

Posted on

Alexandria— The BA Planetarium Science Center’s (PSC) mission is to communicate science in an informal and attractive manner to the public at large with special emphasis on children and youth. The five-year old Center looks at international institutions that have led the way in this relatively new field in search for successful experiences to learn from and emulate.

One of the most important initiatives launched by the PSC in this respect is the Electronic Resources Center website, divided into a public space and a restricted area, providing ideas and news about creative interactive workshops to the public, and a unique database of resources for partner science communicators.

The restricted area of the website details the content of a large diversity of interactive workshops that are designed to provide children and youth with the opportunity of experiencing the magic of science in an enjoyable manner beyond the traditional methods of the classroom. The interactive workshops explained on the website guide animators in helping children and youth understand and practice teamwork by learning how to achieve better results through sharing and dividing work.

The website also provides an arena for direct dialogue with the animators, who create and operate the different workshops posted on the website. The ERC also serves as an asset and a tool in supporting international science centers networks, in which the PSC is a member.

It is worth mentioning that the PSC is the initiating member of the North Africa and Middle East Science centers network (NAMES) and a founding member of the Mediterranean Association for Science Advancement and Dissemination (MASAD). The PSC is also a member of the International Program Committee (IPC) of the Science Centers World Congress (SCWC). The PSC also collaborates with members of other international networks, such as ECSITE, ASTC, among others.
