Emperor of Japan Awards Serageldin the Order of the Rising Sun

The Japanese Government decided to bestow upon Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of the Library of Alexandria, and Head of the Egyptian side of the Japan-Arab Dialogue Forum, “the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star” on Thursday, 8 May 2008 in a ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
The award is given to Dr. Serageldin in recognition of his role in enriching the joint Japan-Arab Dialogue Forum and his contribution in promoting the relations between the two sides. Dr. Walid Abdel Nasser, Egypt's Ambassador to Japan, stated that, on this occasion, the Egyptian Embassy in Tokyo will organize a press conference on 7 May 2008.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Ismail Serageldin is a Member of the Senate in Egypt (Majlis Al-Shura); Distinguished University Professor, Wageningen University, the Netherlands; and chairs the Boards of Directors for each of the BA's affiliated research institutes and museums. He serves as Chair and Member of a number of advisory committees for academic, research, scientific and international institutions and civil society efforts.
