Bulaq Press Book Wins the State Incentive Award

Dr. Khaled Azab, Director, BA Media Department and Ahmed Mansour, Researcher, BA Calligraphy Center, were awarded the State Incentive Award in Social Sciences for the “Bulaq Press” book. The book provides information on the history and evolution of Bulaq Press, as a historical masterpiece.
The book starts with an introduction on the origin of printing in the Far East, Europe and the Middle East. In the second chapter, the authors introduce the emergence of printing in Egypt and the foundation of Bulaq Press. The third chapter describes Bulaq Press during the rule of Mohamed Ali. Chapters four and five illustrate a list of different publications by Bulaq Press, and finally explains the emergence of press in Egypt.
Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of Library the Alexandria, wrote a foreword to the book, in which he answers the question, why Bulaq Press? He explained that the history of Egypt witnessed a scientific and knowledge leap with the emergence of Bulaq Press. Printing freed science, knowledge, and literature from the limitations of manual copying to a broader spectrum of information and knowledge circulation; and rendered science more effective in all aspects of people’s daily life.
